What's In Dinner?

I saw a commercial today that actually made an interesting point. It spoke of the much greater frequency of the question, “What’s for dinner?” rather than, “What’s in dinner?” Change one simple little preposition and the entire meaning changes.

While advertising a product I would still not consider all that healthy, it brought up a good reminder. Clichés like “we are what we eat” abound, but how often do we really take those messages to heart for our heart’s sake, and the sake of all our other body parts?

There are countless ways to healthier eating, a whole bunch of little choices where it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing approach. But that’s not what this post is about. I was simply struck by the turn of phrase, and the fresh way to express the healthy message we all know. Sometimes that’s all it takes, a different way to say the same thing, but in doing so it resonates differently, makes an impact. It’s said at the right time, and in the right way to effect someone. So good that this commercial is out there I think.

I by no means always make perfect food choices, but I do try. Buying organic whenever the organic alternative is available is something that is now a habit. It stemmed from learning how non-organic food can be grown and processed, what’s actually in and on it, and the environmental damage to the planet that results from all those lab-created chemicals and growth hormones, and that doesn’t even touch on GMO. The idea of so manipulating nature, actually genetically modifying it…that’s a subject for another day perhaps.
Once this happens, there is almost no way to protect your commander viagra relationship from breaking due to the sexual problems. Its benefits highlight the holistic approach to 100mg viagra price healing the body. Impotence is a serious issue because it might cause acquisition de viagra harm to your health plus they can harm your veins and decline erectile brokenness. Some other tadalafil cheapest tablets are also useful for the same perspective and they may be Kamagra, Silagra, Caverta, Eriacta etc.
I have heard people say you can’t taste the difference between organic and non-organic food, that we just think we can. Well, just as animals aren’t susceptible to any possible placebo effect with regards to homeopathy, they too are immune from judging food based on what it’s called.

We had a dog who just loved fresh organic vegetables. She would even hollow out rutabagas as if they were bones. One of her favourite veggies was whole green peppers. One time the store was out of organic ones, and so thinking regular hot house grown peppers wouldn’t be so bad, we got one and washed it thoroughly. But you know what? She wouldn’t eat it. Sniffed around it. But would not eat it. Ah, the nose of a dog. The new canary in a mine perhaps?

  1. Sharon, yes, it really does make you wonder how our ancestors would fare if they were suddenly faced with all the pollutants and contaminants and such that we have created since their time. A friend once said it was amazing how resilient we are, given all the garbage we are subjected to. Damage done absolutely, I’m not minimizing that in any way, but it’s still amazing that we can survive at all, given all the horrible stuff we’ve put out there in the world. A world we have no right to pollute so…

  2. Interestingly, I also have a green pepper story. I’ve never been able to eat green peppers without their making me burp – a lot! Even cooked on Pizza, they still bothered me. Organic green peppers do not make me burp. Neither do organically grown radishes.
Yes, you can taste the difference between organic and non-organic food. Several years ago I decided that I’d buy organic produce if it was something that grew above the ground. I mistakenly thought that things that grow above the ground would have more pesticide residue in them; I’ve since learned that this is not the case. However, one day I found a sale on organically grown potatoes so I got them. They were SO MUCH BETTER than the non-organic ones that now I buy organinc whenever possible.
I just this week bought some organic fresh blueberries and again noticed a big difference in flavor between them & the non-organic ones I had the week before.
The chemicals that are sprayed on produce to keep if from rotting in the stores and to give it a longer shelf life also keep it from digesting well in the body.
Sometimes I think that if our great grandparents ate the food that we all eat with the pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers that they’s all get very sick.
