The Serious and The Silly

Someone asked me the other day why I choose to write about both serious and silly things. A lot of blogs have a more specific focus. I guess for me, I find myself wanting the variety. I want the balance that I seek in life to be reflected in this blog.

I remember a description of Robin Williams on the set of One Hour Photo. The DVD behind the scenes featurette discussed how when he’s doing a very serious, heavy role like Sy the Photo Guy, he’s a huge goofball on set between takes. He needs that release. The as expected lightening-fast mind of this great comic was always cracking up his castmates. But conversely, when he’s doing a comedy, he’s actually quietly serious and rather subdued off camera. Yin and yang and that sort of thing. Our systems just naturally want balance, whatever aspect we’re talking about. Variety is the spice of life and too much of anything is a bad thing. Too many clichés here that’s for sure.

I enjoy Robin Williams both dramatic and comedic, and wouldn’t want to be without either. So too, I enjoy thinking and writing about what’s both meaningful to me, as well as all those silly little videos and new tech toys. There are always a lot of serious things we face in life, but the fun aspect of life is huge too. Life, it’s an amazing thing. I hope you enjoy the mix of topics, and please feel free to share your ideas. We may not always agree, but hey, maybe that’ll just help keep the balance.
