Valentine’s Day Niles Style
In honour of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be a great excuse to see one of my all time favourite TV scenes again. For me, David Hyde Pierce as Niles, was one of the very best parts of Frasier. If the show is your cup of tea too, hopefully you’ve had the privilege of seeing this episode, “Three Valentines”, Episode 14 of Frasier: Season 6, at one time or another.
If anyone is not familiar with particular episode, it was actually divided into little scenes showcasing each of the characters on February 14th. Even after multiple viewings of that specific scene, it remains as priceless as the first time I saw it. How rare is it that anything we see on TV is this memorable, or holds its value so well? As Niles readies himself for a date, entertaining at Frasier’s condo, one little wardrobe detail is his undoing.
The pratfalls that befall Niles are classic yet somehow original. One thing that sets this scene apart from most comedy these days, is that aside from the first minute to set things up, there is virtually no dialogue; it may as well be a silent movie. Words would have seemed redundant somehow, for there was never any doubt as to what Niles was thinking or going through. Oh, if he’d just been able to ignore that slightly imperfect crease in his pants…

This is without a doubt the funniest thing ever on TV
