Yay! For the first time in a long time, perhaps ever some might argue, the judging seemed fair. Or at least as fair as anything that is judged subjectively can be. No first over the finish line victors in figure skating. That said however, it really feels like that ‘new’ judging system with its Code

For cats and birds, no expression connecting the two immediately comes to mind. We’ve got the ‘fight like cats and dogs’ one that has so often been disproved a la Animal Friends style, or even the Wizard of Oz line paraphrased for Lion, Tiger, and Bear… But for the furry and the feathered? Maybe none

My father had some great ways of looking at things. I asked him once about the whole glass half empty versus half full metaphor for life. His answer wasn't what I expected. He just matter-of-factly and confidently stated his wasn't either one. His glass was completely full. He had this great grin on his face. So peaceful. He refused to accept that things were limited, or at least that's how I interpreted it.

They say there’s no such thing as bad publicity. True or not, one side benefit to all the recent talk about the future of figure skating, and just what direction it should go in, is that hopefully the sport’s audience will continue to grow. I wasn’t going to wade into the Olympic figure skating judging thing again today, but certain comments just kept coming back to me. Two very different sources, but both sharing similar sentiments, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Canadian skater Elvis Stojko have each had things to say about the Men’s figure skating results. Fight like cats and dogs. Such a common expression, but is it always true? Unless feeling threatened or provoked, is it ever often true? For sure animals playfully chase each other for example, but without any real desire to hurt. Just like that lion, tiger, and bear, ‘unlikely’ friends abound in the animal kingdom. Absolutely

In honour of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be a great excuse to see one of my all time favourite TV scenes again. For me, David Hyde Pierce as Niles, was one of the very best parts of Frasier. If the show is your cup of tea too, hopefully you’ve had the privilege of

Peter Schickele may not exactly be a household name, but were it not for him, we would never have been treated to, or tricked by, the music of P.D.Q. Bach. Both Schickele and P.D.Q. can be difficult to explain. How do you describe someone, for truth be told they are actually one and the same,

I thought we could all use something lighter after my last couple of posts about pet food. I know I could. While I think it’s a hugely important issue, I can only think about it so much, and hope you welcome the break as well. We all just do the best we can, and hope
