Weeding the Internet

While we now have access to an almost unimaginable wealth of information via the internet, one unavoidable consequence is determining the accuracy of that information. Anyone, and his brother or sister, including me, can proffer information on any number of subjects.

The challenge is to weed out the accurate from the inaccurate on the web. So we verify with other sources, share ideas with others, use common sense that we probably all wish were more common sometimes, and just generally spend time making up our own mind.

I think the benefits of such widely available and voluminous information far outweigh the cons, or costs. Everything we know or believe somewhere comes from a natural weeding out process. We get exposed to different ideas first from our parents, then from the world at large. Combined with whatever makes us each who we are, we come up with our own beliefs and truths.

While this concept can be taken in very serious directions, discussing big-time life issues and such, it is the weekend after all, a classic time of rest. There are so many serious issues and situations taking up our thoughts. So, for the sake of distraction I’m going with something more mundane; let me recommend the following informational site, http://www.testfreaks.com/.

Helping our weeding process, this site offers a great compilation of information from many different sources. To quote their mission statement of sorts, “TestFreaks collects product information and reviews from over 60 countries and several thousand sources to give you the best possible advice.”

The range of items they cover is huge. It includes everything from computers to home audio to appliances to cameras and TV/Video to gaming systems to sporting and outdoor equipment to baby strollers and more. Their list continues to grow. I have found it a wonderful site for reading both expert and user reviews collected from all over the place.

Hey, it’s time saved from having to personally track down each information source individually. But then again, maybe THE site we might want most is not listed there yet…so our own search continues…
