The Indestructible Roll-Up Computer Keyboard

As computers advance, it seems we just keep moving smaller. Desktops to laptops to netbooks to tablets. And that’s not even counting the countless phones and PDAs that have teeny keyboards best suited to a newborn size finger or thumb. Greater portability and that ever important cuteness factor are all well and good, and great for typing in a pinch or on the go. But I can’t see War and Peace being written on one.

For such tomes, or even anything more than just a few sentences, some fingers quickly grow tired of maneuvering around miniaturized keys. That’s why many people plug in a separate keyboard, and mouse for that matter. I must admit though, I have grown rather fond of the little touchpad mouse replacement. Just don’t tell Bailey – wouldn’t want to insult his mice…

The problem with most of those peripheral keyboards is that they pretty much negate the portability benefit of laptops. Not such a problem at home perhaps, but how many stay stationary? Lugging around a traditional keyboard just doesn’t work too well. That’s why portable add-ons for our portable devices are so important, and practical.

Also, who of us hasn’t had a close call with a glass of water or something equally computer unfriendly? Not only is there a flexible silicone rubber keyboard that completely rolls up, Unotron’s FlexiTuff Silent Washable Roll-up Keyboard – Black is also immune to just about everything you can throw at it. Water is not the enemy, it’s actually a friend. It’s fully washable even under running water.

The part that amazes me even more is that you can even operate the thing “in shallow water, dusty, acidic, alkaline and damp environments.” What’s next? A completely underwater computer? Maybe they already have that somewhere… But just where would you find that acidic or alkaline environment? I’m not sure I want to go there. The keyboard may be able to take it, but I have sensitive skin.

There’s also a cool option for use in dimmer environments.
